From when we first set out on our journey to travel the world together our goal was to help others. During our stay in Bali we tried various delicious local foods - nasi goreng, fresh seafood, babi guling, and much more. On our walks around the streets at Jimbaran we came across a lovely couple, Pak and Bu Rico. They owned a small family business, or “Warung”, near the Holland Bakery on Jalan Uluwatu II. Their green cart was the point of where we sat and ate warm and freshly cooked congee and dessert. They spoke mainly Indonesian, and only a little English. We were one of their regular customers and simply couldn’t get enough of their great food!
As we got to know them we found out their hometown was 11 hours away from Jimbaran of which they would visit once a year when they could. As I write this they are heading there now to visit their village. Their 7-year old son currently lives there with his grandma and studies while they take care of their daughter Maya in Jimbaran. Both are humble people with big hearts and really appreciated us giving them some clothes and luggage bags to help carry their stuff around for next time they go back to their village. Bu Rico was especially excited about receiving the handbag! It made both our day to see their smiles and gestures of gratitude from receiving the items. This was exactly why we chose this path – to help others and explore the wonders of our world :)
If you’re ever in Bali Jimbaran I recommend seeing this couple – they provide delicious food at bargain prices. It will set you back about 10,000 rupiah for either a bowl of chicken congee or green bean soup dessert.
